This fantastic photie was taken from the City Hospital grounds between 1948 and 1952 looking out onto the Oxgangs farmland in the foreground with a few prefabs and Colinton Mains in the middle distance to the right and the Pentlands in the far distance.
It appears on Peter Stubbs' Edinburgh Photo site along with a few others sent in by a former nurse. It's really quite amazing what treasures are now appearing and being shared by people from the mists of time for others to enjoy thanks to the internet. |
The Stair - 6 OXGANGS AVENUE EDINBURGH (incorporating OXGANGS - A PASTIME FROM TIME PAST) - The everyday life of eight families living in one of the post war new council housing schemes on the south of the city set in the lee of the Pentland Hills between the years 1958 to 1972.
